THE BLACK KEYS ARE LONELY

The Black Keys have unlocked the first new music from their upcoming album, and the exciting part for us is that this time next month a pretty 12” vinyl version of that song, “Lonely Boy” will be at record stores as part of Black Friday. Then just a few weeks after that, the new album, EL CAMINO, will be out too.

LOUTALLICA: LOU REED AND METALLICA'S LULU

This week sees the release of the highly anticipated, much talked about, seeming oddball collaboration between Lou Reed and Metallica, Lulu . The album began as a cycle of songs Lou Reed had written based on the plays and had intended for the stage. After Reed played with Metallica at 2009’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame concert, however, he decided to use the songs as the basis for a record with the metal titans. PREVIEW & PURCHASE

RYAN ADAMS CALLS THE SHOTS

ASHES & FIRE, the new record from Ryan Adams is out this week, and finds him in fine form, according to the stores and fans we’ve talked to and the critics we’ve read. Granted, this clip is acoustic, but judge for yourself, and if you decide to pick up the new record, you should know that for a lucky few there’s a special lyric book that comes with this, but only while supplies last. Oh, and vinyl junkies? Your Ashes & Fire moment comes 11/1. PREVIEW & PURCHASE

LENNY KRAVITZ SHOW AND TELL

Lenny Kravitz has always been known as a student of the musical past, his music and image harking back to the 60s and 70s, and his new record, BLACK AND WHITE AMERICA , is coming out on the most-used medium of the day: vinyl. Here’s Lenny himself, getting a good look at his new baby (you can get a good look at it starting Friday, August 27 when it streets, only at participating indie record stores. (CD on sale August 29)

PAT GROSSI IS AN ACTIVE CHILD

We’re finding it hard to classify Active Child’s music, and so is everyone else really, they’re all just looking forward to the release of the new album YOU ARE ALL I SEE (on 9/23). Pat Grossi’s musical project has toured with a bunch of different-sounding bands (James Blake, White Lies, School of Seven Bells, White Rabbits) and people have had nice things to say, such as when KEXP said ““His heaven-sent falsetto rising above a warm tenor that he developed through his formative years in the Philadelphia Boys Choir will send chills down your spine if not inspire tears of elation.” (See what we mean by hard to classify?) Check things out for yourself, with this little album trailer.
