"Wow! You mean, I can eat and drink my face off one day, and go nuts record shopping the next?" Yes! Yes, you can...

Because Record Store Day, who helped relaunch the vinyl business back in 2007, bringing record stores into the spotlight, are still riding the crest as we head into the biggest shopping day of the year. Record stores are the perfect place to find things you want to put on your own wish list, and to check off the shopping list you’re making for all the loved ones in your life. That crazy retail season is nearly upon us, and beginning on November 25th, RSD's participating record stores are set to offer these exciting Black Friday titles of sheer fun and celebration...

The late great Prince was a big fan of his local record store and the 12” picture disc of his track with The New Power Generation, “Sexy Mother Fucker,” (aka “Sexy M.F.”) will drop as an exclusive Black Friday title at record stores across the country. It’s inarguably a collector’s piece and an apt tribute to the musical genius. On the same tip, 8 Ft Records/Cooking Vinyl will release Amanda Palmer and Jherek Bischoff’s Strung Out In Heaven, a six track vinyl homage to both David Bowie and Prince, arranged for string quartet and voice, with special guests Neil Gaiman, Anna Calvi and John Cameron Mitchell.

Eric Church hit the road and his On The Rocks—Live and (Mostly) Unplugged EP from EMI Nashville, is a 10” collection of live recordings from the iconic venue Red Rocks. Billy Idol toured as well, and brought live versions of some of your favorite songs to sneer along with into three LP box called BFI LIVE. Budos Band, one of the most acclaimed live bands around, are finally releasing their first official live music—a 7” with three tracks recorded live at an intimate club in North Carolina.

Swedish hardcore band Refused followed its first few shows in 15 years with an exciting comeback tour. Now Epitaph releases Refused’s Servants of Death EP, featuring four live recordings captured during that 2015 Freedom tour, along with 2 additional studio tracks. Easy Sound Recording Co. will release the sixth in its Live at Pickathon vinyl series, this timeAngel Olsen/Steve Gunn Live At Pickathon vinyl EP- an exclusive pressing of live performances by Angel Olsen (side A) & Steve Gunn (side B), recorded live at Pickathon 2014 in Portland, OR. Steve Gunn pulls double duty this holiday shopping season, as Matador also releases a three song studio 12” from the guitar slinger.

Black Friday is going to smell… well, it’s gonna smell. LA punk band the Regrettes will release a marshmallow-scented 7” single of their “Marshmallow World” and Sony Legacy rings in the holidays with South Park’s Mr. Hankey's Christmas Classics. Never before on LP, and certainly never before on brown, scented vinyl.

Jazz fans of all kinds will find something to give and get this year at a record store. As part of their Essentials Collection, Justin Time Records will release legendary jazzman Chet Baker’s Love For Sale: Live at the Rising Sun Celebrity Club on vinyl for the first time. And Ornette Coleman’s An Evening with Ornette Coleman (Volume 1) chronicling the jazz great’s much-ballyhooed 1965 concert at Fairfield Hall in Croydon, England sees a release from ORG Music.

Soundtracks sound great on vinyl and there are some doozies coming this season, including Light In The Attic’s release on its Cinewax imprint of Chinatown (which comes in ninth on the American Film Institute’s list of Top 25 Film Scores of All Time). Dungen release on Mexican Summer both CD and vinyl versions of Haxan, the score they composed for a 1926 silent animated film called The Adventures of Prince Achmed, which they performed for the first time at a festival in Marfa, TX. And while not a soundtrack, per se, there’s a special treat for the multitude of Star Wars fans out there as Walt Disney Records release Shag Kava’s 10” Star Wars Headspace track “Jabba Flow” on a picture disc featuring remixes of the song helmed by the one and only, Rick Rubin. (Bonus points if you can name the folks who make up Shag Kava—both pretty busy in-demand personalities on their own right now.)

Erykah Badu’s clear vinyl LP But You Caint Use My Phone, proclaimed by the Los Angeles Times as  “Badu at her most experimental", was born from a cover of Drake's “Hotline Bling” features a duet with Andre 3000, and sees its physical debut at record stores. And Get On Down continues its obsession with James Brown’s People Records label with the release of James Brown’s Funky People, Vol. 3, opening the vault of never-ending funk and soul even wider.

A whole crew of Record Store Day Ambassadors are getting into the action on the day after Thanksgiving as well: Iggy Popreunites with his fellow badasses, The Stooges for Telluric Chaos, a chronicle of their 2004 reunion in France; Chuck D not only gives us his laundry room pep talks but also the vinyl version of the Prophets of Rage debut EP, The Party’s OverJack White will re-release a limited edition 7” single of The Raconteurs’ “Steady, As She Goes / Store Bought Bones,” with reproductions of the band’s backstage passes from their tour; and while it’s not a Metallica release proper, our current Ambassadors are represented with Fade to Bluegrass: The Bluegrass Tribute to Metallica.

And, THEE BIG FINALE: the Rolling Stones will unveil one new track on Black Friday on a special 10” record, exclusively at record stores, limited to 3000 copies!
