THE INDIE OPTION

When you feature only an Amazon or iTunes button on your social media or website, you're telling your fans that there are only two ways to buy your music. We know that's not true and you know that you have fans who prefer to shop indie, and shop locally, whether through physical or digital purchases. There are lots of record stores and no way for you to link to all of them, so we created "The Indie Option", which sits nicely alongside Amazon, iTunes (and any other buy buttons) on the internet and geolocates your fans to the nearest physical record store to walk into, a store they can order from to have a release shipped to them, and a digital purchase option that still supports indie record stores.

We created a simple way to add a link so that your release can be easily purchased from an indie record store and it's very straightforward and easy. All you need is on this page.  Thanks for including indie record stores and The Indie Option.

The Indie Option was created for regular (not limited edition, Record Store Day or Black Friday) releases, week in and week out, on street date and beyond. The assets on the landing page for your particular record come to us about a week before street, so if you do not see assets on the page once you create it, you can contact us and let us know so we can hand place those assets.  (NOTE: Indie Option is created for street date releases, not for pre-orders. Contact carrie@recordstoreday.com if you're looking to do a pre-order campaign.) Once you read through this page, and create your hyperlinked button, feel free to send us an email and let us know you’re doing this (indieoption@recordstoreday.com) and we also suggest that you TWEET and FACEBOOK the news out to fans. If you tag us (@recordstoreday and www.facebook.com/RecordStoreDay, we’ll send the word out too, and we’ll let the hundreds of local stores who are part of Record Store Day know what you are doing to support them, by giving your fans the equal opportunity to SHOP INDIE and BUY LOCAL.

**Not all stores listed on www.recordstoreday.com are participating in the Indie Option. Because we want all customers to have a good experience, we have included only those stores who sell new product, in all genres, and in all formats. More stores will be added as they fit the criteria.

Instructions:  

1. You need the UPC of the product that wish you deep link to on Recordstoreday.com.

2. Using that UPC (without dashes) you can plug it into the URL as follows:

i.e.:  

http://www.recordstoreday.com/UPC/XXXXXXXXXXX  where XXXXXXXXXXX is the UPC so yours would look like this one:
