The album is 2Pac's commentary on contemporary social issues facing American society such as racism, police brutality, poverty, black on black crime, and teenage pregnancy. Recordings and Interscope Records, which at the time was distributed through Eastwest Records America and Atlantic Records. Quayle made the statement, "There's no reason for a record like this to be released. It has no place in our society."

The album features only four members of the original line-up, as Ice Cube had already left the group in 1989. Reissued back on vinyl for the first time in years, this classic comes with a limited edition 3D lenticular cover that brings the grisly murder scene on the cover to life.
