Released in 1964, “Long Tall Sally” was the fifth Beatles 4 song 7” EP to be released in the UK but it was the first one to be recorded and released with all new material at the time. “Long Tall Sally” is noteworthy as it was one of the songs that Paul sang to John on the first day that they met and because it was recorded in one take with no edits or overdubs. It was recorded on the same day as the band recorded “I Call Your Name” and was originally intended for the film “A Hard Day’s Night.” In the end, it was decided that the two tracks would be used for a new EP so the band rounded the EP out with the recording of  “Slow Down” and “Matchbox.” Originally sung by Little Richard, Paul sings lead on the title track, John sings lead on “I Call Your Name” and “Slow Down,” while Ringo sings lead on “Matchbox.” Like recent reissues of Beatles original albums, this four track EP is also being released in Mono. The “Long Tall Sally” 7” vinyl EP is being specially rereleased for Record Store Day’s Black Friday in a very limited quantity.

Next year, Light In The Attic will release a detailed series showcasing the work of impassioned poet, painter, actor, and prolific, self-taught musician Lizzy Mercier Descloux.  Instrumental in the late 70s New York underground yet of Parisian origin, Mercier Descloux, with partner Michel Esteban, established the magazine Rock News and ran in the same circles as Patti Smith and Richard Hell.  Lizzy became a genre defying artist and pioneer of worldbeat and avant garde rock, and supreme minimalist of the no wave genre in her own right.  A glimpse of what's in store for this upcoming archival series, this 7"" presents two key tracks from the Mercier Descloux catalog: the epitomic, 1979 disco-punk classic ""Fire"" backed with a rare session featuring Lizzy and ""Godmother of Punk"" Patti Smith reciting a bilingual version of Arthur Rimbaud's poem, ""Matinée d'ivresse/Morning High,"" set to music by experimental contemporary Bill Laswell.

In 1978, legendary label ZE Records released a mini-album by Mercier Descloux's performance art duo, Rosa Yemen, and went on to release several of Lizzy's solo albums.  Her debut solo album, Press Color, consists of eight songs owing more to disco, funk, and film scores than punk rock, all recorded within a two week span.  Lizzy's second solo release, Mambo Nassau, evokes Talking Heads' ""Zimbra"" and ""Born Under Punches,"" riddled with off-kilter-time-keeping, flailing guitars, and lush basslines.  Heavily influenced by African music, art rock, funk, and soul, Mercier Descloux's music gained extreme popularity in her native France, the height of which came with her 1984 album, Zulu Rock.  The album seems a more vivacious and enthralling harbinger for Paul Simon's Graceland.  ZE Records' Michel Esteban recalls, ""This South African music reminded us, as incredible as it may sound, of The Velvet Underground.""

Lizzy spent the next two decades living somewhat nomadically in Africa, France, New York, South America, and the West Indies, never ceasing her pursuit of the arts as she transitioned from music to painting and writing.  Mercier Descloux was diagnosed with cancer in 2003 and passed away the following year.

Honor the Treaties is an organization dedicated to amplyfiying the voices of indigenous commnunities through art and advocacy. They do that by funding collaborations between Native artists and Native advocacy groups so that their messages can reach a wider audience. Charity board member John Densmore of The Doors and artist Shepard Fairey spearheaded this release in conjunction with Record Store Day. All net proceeds of this release will go to the charity. Peter LaFarge occupied a special niche in contemporary folk music as the first politically aware Native American to attract serious attention. The unreleased album by James Brown's backing band: The Bootsy Collins-led JB's. This album is the Rosetta Stone of funk's dominant idioms, yet its existence is barely a rumor. In 1970, James Brown perfectly captured a definitive moment in modern music when he ordered Bootsy Collins into the studio to record the tracks that would be test-pressed on King Records as These Are The JB's. And if there is any funk ensemble as influential as Brown's, in the post-"Cold Sweat" musical landscape, it's the Parliament Funkadelic contingent. Those two streams, as Grammy-winning James Brown historian Alan Leeds details in this album's liner notes, converged for the first time here. There are only two extant copies of the original King Records test press LP of These Are The JB's. This, the first commercial issue of this album, was overseen by Now-Again's Egon alongside Leeds and Universal Music Group's James Brown expert Harry Weinger. The original issue of the 1983 song "Beat Bop" by lyricists Rammellzee and K-Rob has been heard by many, but held by few. Only a reputed 500 of the song's initial run, on Jean-Michel Basquiat's one-off Tartown Records label, were made with jacket cover art by the infinitely influential graphic artist (and moonlighting musician and producer). They remain one of hip-hop's "holy grail" items. The audio, which clocked in at over 10 minutes, was issued--with no picture sleeve--on Profile Records soon after the Tartown pressings and went on to influence countless MCs, with its minimal, languishing funk beat (produced by Basquiat) and Rammellzee's and K-Rob's next-level lyricism. The picture sleeve version has never been officially re-issued, and this edition, curated by hip-hop historian Noah Uman, goes the extra mile. It features officially licensed original artwork from the Basquiat estate and a four-panel folded insert with deep backgroun on the original single's creation, compiled by Andrew "Noz" Nosnitsky--including interviews with many of the artists involved with its production: Rammellzee, K-Rob, Glenn O'Brien, percussionist Al Diaz, Profile's Cory Robbins and more. Rammellzee left this earth in 2010 and Basquiat passed away in 1988--with deluxe reissue, their important contributions to the formative years of hip-hop on wax are remembered and celebrated.
