The original Alice Cooper group reunited 10/6/15 at Good Records in Dallas, TX.  This is two songs from that historic performance.  A 45 RPM big hole record on colored vinyl, in a gatefold foil board jacket with art prints,  and printed inner sleeve. Colored vinyl variants: 1150 white, 1150 pink, 100 black, and 100 split color pink/white are randomly distributed. The art prints in the pink/white variant are autographed by the four original members.

After the Allman Brothers split up in 1982, Dickey Betts formed a new band, recruiting Jimmy Hall (Wet Willie) as co-leader. Fellow ABB members Chuck Leavell, David Goldflies, and Butch Trucks joined, forming the Betts, Hall, Leavell, and Trucks Band (aka BHLT). This live performance was recorded at The Coffee Pot, Roanoke, VA, in January of 1983. Double vinyl edition!

Available for Record Store Day Black Friday is the first in a series of three volumes of double LPs that will contain the entire Big Star Complete Third boxed set. Titled Vol. 1: Demos To Sessions To Roughs starts at the beginning of the album creation with demos of the songs that were all eventually cut at the sessions. Material from the sessions follows including a take on The Beach Boys’ “Don’t Worry Baby” (previously unissued in this unedited form) and oddly enough a version of “I’m In Love With A Girl” (previously unissued) from the album that was released prior to these sessions, Radio City. All the chaos and, as producer Jim Dickinson put it, “deconstruction,” is present in these early stages of recording. Vols. 2 and 3 will follow in short order in early 2017.

The Film: This strikingly shot concert documentary follows enigmatic Drag City singer-songwriter Bill Callahan on a two week tour from California to New York. For the past 25 years, under both the Smog moniker and under his own name, Callahan has cultivated a legacy as both a pioneer in the lo-fi movement and one of the country’s finest troubadours. The film is built on impressionistic scenes of Callahan’s life on the road combined with his cryptic musings ("I started playing music when I was 20, and time stopped for me then in a good way”), creating a voyeuristic glimpse into his meticulously constructed universe of disaffection and disorder. It is an austere and beautiful portrait of both the musician and the multifarious American landscape.

The Gatefold LP packaging will include the DVD of the film and an LP of exclusive vinyl only tracks.

The Grammy-nominated U.K. duo – brothers Guy and Howard Lawrence – gave the lead-off track “BOSS” its first live performance at their self-curated Wild Life Festival in the U.K. Anchored around Howard’s pitched-down vocal, the song is a tour de force of propulsive hi-hats, liquid bass and incendiary dynamics. The intoxicatingly soulful “Feel Like I Do” came together after Guy sampled soul legend Al Green’s classic hit “I’m Still In Love With You” off a batch of vinyl he had purchased. When Disclosure sought approval to use the track, the request reached the ears of The Reverend himself. Green loved it so much that he made an exception to his usual practice and gave Guy the original recording stems to work with.

The full 33-minute, unreleased, psychedelic funk jam session by Memphis rhythm kingpins the Bar-Kays, mixed directly from the original tapes. Contains bonus rhythm section instrumental and booklet detailing the history of this never-before-heard version of one of Isaac Hayes’ most famous songs by Hayes historian Bill Dahl.

Hayes was already a cutting-edge funk master at Stax Records when he accepted the unprecedented assignment of creating a soundtrack for the 1971 action flick Shaft. At a time when R&B songs routinely timed out at three minutes and under, Hayes’ albums for Stax’s Enterprise imprint had been breaking new ground since 1969. His masterpiece Hot Buttered Soul consisted of only four tracks, two songs on The Isaac Hayes Movement clocked in at a hair under 12 minutes, and one selection on his …To Be Continued stretched to 15:33.

But his epic “Do Your Thing,” one of the cornerstones of the two-LP Shaft soundtrack, outdid them all. Occupying nearly the entire last side of the set, it concluded after 19-and-a-half grooving minutes with the overdubbed sound of a needle scratching violently across a piece of vinyl. No one knew that jarring ending masked the existence of another 13 minutes of “Do Your Thing.” Consigned to the vaults, those improvisatory extensions—somewhere in between free-jazz and psychedelic rock—were seemingly destined never to be heard. Until now.

The Jungle Brothers’ 1988 debut, Straight Out The Jungle, was important for many reasons. It was sloppy and goofy but had moments of real focus and social consciousness. It was a true “kitchen sink” record, that caught a rap fanbase enraptured by Eric B. & Rakim, Public Enemy and Boogie Down Productions a bit off-guard. Also of note, beyond the excellence of the album itself, the Jungle Brothers were the fulcrum for what would become the Native Tongues movement – they came first, De La Soul and A Tribe Called Quest followed, under their guidance.

By 1989, the group had even more confidence, plus a Warner Bros. contract and advance in their back pocket. They used it to great advantage on the self-produced and criminally underrated Done By The Forces Of Nature, expanding their sonic palette and continuing their Afrocentric approach to music and life. Singles like “What ‘U’ Waitin’ 4” and “Doin’ Our Own Dang” (with De La and Q-Tip, alongside Monie Love) showed the group’s fun side, which has also lead the way in the “hip-house” movement. But things weren’t all fun and games, as deeper, more pensive album tracks like “Black Woman,” “Beeds On A String,” and “Acknowledge Your Own History” show. It was another accomplished mix of fun, frolic and knowledge-of-self, proving that you could be serious in the rap game but still let off steam and fill the dancefloor.

Done By The Forces Of Nature stands as one of the most cherished hip-hop documents of the late ‘80s among true-school heads, and this edition is the perfect way to revisit this classic thinking-man’s (and woman’s) rap platter. Issued for the first time ever on 2-LP with the original picture sleeve artwork, it also comes with a reproduction of the original insert, with credits and lyrics.

After the death of David Bowie, frequent collaborators Jherek Bischoff and Amanda Palmer paid homage to their hero by releasing five tracks of Bowie’s arranged for string quartet and voice, with special guests Neil Gaiman, Anna Calvi and John Cameron Mitchell. Its primordial rhythms traveled across the Atlantic during the slave trade to provide the part of the foundation for Afro-Cuban grooves that would go on to influence the development of jazz, rock & roll, R&B and funk.

With the new Calabar-Itu Road compilation, Comb & Razor Sound presents15 heavy tracks recorded in the decade between 1972 and 1982, spotlighting rare music from “Calabar” superstars such as Etubom Rex Williams, Cross River Nationale, Charles “Effi” Duke, The Doves and Mary Afi Usuah. Legendary bassist Mike Watt has had no shortage of projects and releases in recent years, but this EP is likely to be the most exciting for the legions of Minutemen fans around the world. For the first time ever, Watt has recorded three unreleased songs that he wrote for the Minutemen 35 years ago. To do these songs justice, Watt is joined by drummer Bob Lee, alongside members of his current Missingmen and Secondmen projects. The new line-up has been dubbed Mike Watt + The Bobblymen. The three song EP will be released on 7" vinyl, exclusively for Black Friday Record Store Day. Half of the pressing will come on light blue color vinyl, with the other have on standard black vinyl.

Ben Webster's Gone With The Wind is a truly incredible album that has been underappreciated throughout the years, in part because it hasn't been pressed anywhere in nearly three decades. The live performance took place at the legendary Montmartre Jazzhus in Copenhagen in January of 1965, right in the prime of Webster's long European period.
