In August 1971, David Bowie's manager, Tony Defries had 500 promo LPs pressed to secure Bowie and fellow Mainman artist Dana Gillespie a record deal. This promo album, featuring seven Bowie songs on one Side A and five by Gillespie on the flip is often referred to as the BOWPROMO white label album. It came in generic white outer and inner sleeves, and had no printed labels so its matrix number (BOWPROMO 1A-1/1B-1) is the only way to safely identify it. Growing up in the '80s, guitarist Ken Olden and vocalist Mike McTernan were heavily influenced by the burgeoning punk/new wave scene. In particular, The Cure became a mainstay for both, and they would use elements of the layered moodiness and the swirling guitars combined with hardcore to create an emotionally punishing soundscape in DAMANTION A.D. From their very early recordings, DAMNATION A.D. would pay homage to the great influence of The Cure by covering ''Cold.'' During that same session almost 25 years ago, the idea to cover Pornography in its entirety was formed. The Distillers' third and last studio album was also their debut on a major label. Produced by Mike Leander, who had produced and arranged much of Faithfull’s Decca material, Rich Kid Blues is an intriguing album of spare, largely acoustic readings of folk/rock songs, including several Bob Dylan covers, as well as songs by Phil Ochs, George Harrison, Cat Stevens, Tim Hardin, James Taylor and Sandy Denny. Marianne Faithfull had this to say about the 1971 recordings: “The record itself is very strange and ghostly. It’s the voice of somebody incredibly high, probably on the edge of death. They always sound like that. Johnny Thunders sounds like that. Anybody who heard that record would have said, ‘Well that’s that. We’ll never hear from her again’.” Recorded in 1972, but not released until 1985, this silver vinyl reissue brings it back into print for Record Store Day.

It should come as no surprise to fans of the Chilean trio Föllakzoid that upon meeting the legendary Jason Pierce a.k.a. J. Spaceman (Spacemen 3, Spiritualized), they discovered they were kindred spirits. Föllakzoid and Spaceman's projects share a restless drive to explore the outer limits of music, as well as an uncanny ability to lock into a groove until it infiltrates the deepest recesses of the listener's psyche. When Föllakzoid met Spaceman backstage at a Wooden Shjips gig at London's Electric Ballroom several years ago, they instantly became friends. For London Sessions, the Chileans and Spaceman joined forces for new, live-to-tape renditions of "Electric" and "Earth," two highlights from Föllakzoid's III. The recordings were made in a private studio in London while Föllakzoid was on tour in Europe in June 2016, and Spaceman's contributions breathe new life into the songs. "Jason added a very different harmonic atmosphere to the songs," guitarist Domingo Garcia-Huidobro explained. "It somehow rearticulated the space and metric that already existed in a way the band never could. These new versions have a different edge."

When first released in July of 2006, Greg Graffin's Cold as The Clay may have seemed a world apart from his punk rock roots as singer and founding member of Bad Religion. But the classic American music that Graffin pays homage to here, in both carefully chosen covers and in his own songwriting, forms the backbone of Bad Religion's epic tales of the young and the poor, mired by misery and poverty. Cold as the Clay honors the traditional folk music that Graffin grew up listening to, with original rock compositions that drew inspiration from the folk rock of Gram Parsons and Neil Young, as well as traditional American Folk music. Originally found on Jansch’s final album of the same name, ‘The Black Swan’ is featured here on a 7” single, flanked by an early demo. The two songs are at parallels; where the demo shows the bare bones of the track (working title: 'Space Highway’), the finished article is something altogether more orchestral, with Helena Espvall’s (then of Espers) soaring cello providing a foil for Jansch’s supremely melodic refrain. Since the release of Cleopatra in April 2016, The Lumineers have been going non-stop. On September 21, 1956, the first Johnny Mathis session produced by Mitch Miller took place. It succeeded beyond anyone’s wildest expectations. The first single from that session, “Wonderful! Wonderful!” b/w “When Sunny Gets Blue,” shot up the charts in early 1957, peaked at #14, and stayed on Billboard’s Pop Singles chart for 39 weeks - a record that was unbroken for over 20 years.
