Special unreleased new mix for Record Store Day 2020 created by original band members Marian Gold and Bernhardt Lloyd together with Blank & Jones. For the first time since he left Alphaville in 2003, Bernhard worked with Marian in the studio and they used only original parts from the 1984 multi track tapes, no additional instruments. Blank & Jones work closely with the band since 2013 on various projects like "so8os (so eighties) Reconstructions pres. Alphaville“ and the "Forever Young - Super Deluxe Edition".

The name "Grant & Kelly Remix“results from a line in the second verse of the song: "….Like the Cary Grants and Kellys once before…“. This limited edition also features a special long version on the B-side.

I’m Only Dancing - Taken from recently discovered sources in The David Bowie Archive®, I’m Only Dancing (The Soul Tour 74) was recorded mostly during David’s performance at the Michigan Palace, Detroit on 20th October, 1974, with the encores taken from the Municipal Auditorium, Nashville on 30th November, 1974. 

The Soul Tour was a radical mid-tour departure from Bowie’s 1974 Diamond Dogs theatrical extravaganza. During a three week break in late 1974, the Diamond Dogs Tour’s elaborate six-ton Hunger City stage set was drastically stripped back, and the tour’s set list overhauled to include as-yet-unreleased tracks from the Young Americans sessions at Sigma Sound in Philadelphia. Altoist Marion Brown is perhaps best known for performances on albums by his contemporaries, such as Coltrane's Ascension, but Brown stands on his own as one of the most creative and important forces to come out of the 1960s avant-garde jazz movement. Porto Novo is widely regarded as one of Brown's best recordings, captured during a 1967 session in Holland at the peak of his creative powers, accompanied by bassist Maarten van Regteben Altena and drummer Han Bennink. Previously out of print for decades, the recording has now been remastered for a long-overdue reissue on audiophile-grade vinyl, exclusively for Record Store Day 2020.

Recorded live at the Donaueschingen Music Festival on October 17, 1971, Actions features a truly mind-bending confluence of musicians of the avant-garde, in the broadest sense of the term. Don Cherry -- the brilliant American free jazz trumpeter -- had recently expatriated to Sweden and was finding his way not only among the emerging free-jazz scene of Europe but also within his own constantly expanding musical palette that had begun to incorporate elements of African rhythms, Turkish folk idioms, and Indian classical music. The Fallen Angels' two albums -- issued in October 1967 and July 1968 -- have made them one of the most beloved US cult bands of their time. This treasure trove of unreleased material from their prime will therefore be greeted rapturously by their many fans. It contains a full concert taped in their hometown in April 1969, as well as a range of outtakes, demos and works-in-progress, including material intended for their never-released third LP. Over the years those advance CDs have fetched untold hundreds of dollars from an eager fan base in search of Wes' great 'lost" album. Though many - but not all - of the songs ended up on 2004's Adam's Apple (DRT Records), which All Music Guide called 'the finest album of his career', those that did make the cut were in a jumbled running order. The album has never previously been released on vinyl. The Man With No Shadow First Edition restores the album to Wes's original vision. The audio has been remastered from the original tapes, and the package includes cover art from the original sessions and extensive liner notes. The memorable 40th anniversary official theme song "JOIN THE PAC" was produced by Japanese DJ and record producer Ken Ishii. The video clip of his masterpiece "Extra" (directed by Koji Morimoto also known as the drawing director of the movie AKIRA) was awarded "MTV Dance Video of the Year" in the UK, which brought him as one of Japan's most proud producers to the world.

"Alfredito 'Sabor' Linares is a globetrotting pianist, composer, bandleader, and producer from Lima, Peru with a long, prolific career in hot Latin music spanning more than half a century. Though Linares has come to recent international fame through his work with William 'Quantic' Holland, he was already quite popular and famous in his adopted countries of Colombia and Venezuela in the ‘70s and '80s during the salsa boom. However, his career began in Lima, backing timbalero Ñico Estrada at age 17 in 1961, and Alfredito's first notable recording as a sideman was a few years later on the now legendary El Combo de Pepe album for IEMPSA/Odeon.

Subsequently Linares would advance his career by recording two fabulous records under his own capable leadership as Alfredo Linares Y Su Sonora at the end of the decade for the MAG label. These releases capitalized on recent developments in New York Latin music, namely Latin jazz, boogaloo, descarga (jam session) and what would later be marketed as 'salsa' with roots in the Cuban guaguancó and guaracha genres. One can hear direct inspiration coming from Joe Cuba, Ricardo Ray, and Eddie Palmieri, especially on the first album, El Pito, and yet by the second record, there are plenty of original tunes as well. More importantly there is a 'swing' and assertiveness to the playing (and arrangements) that prove every bit as authentic, tough and danceable as their New York inspirations . . . .

That special 'swing' also emanated from Linares' ace backing band, which happened to be a talented stable of MAG studio musicians who all understood Cuban and jazz music: percussionists Mario Allison and Coco Lagos, bassist Joey di Roma, Kiko Fuentes, and Carlos Muñoz on lead vocals and Melcochita on coro (vocal chorus). According to Linares, the studio band was 'open-ended, some musicians came some days, others on other days -- Nilo Espinoza on saxophone, Betico Salas and Tito Chicoma on trumpets. Otto de Rojas played piano, and so did Charlie Palomares, who played vibraphone. Another good musician was guitarist Carlos Hayre.' Though the recordings were cut 'live in the studio' and many were basically composed on the spot, the intrinsic strength and maturity of the performances on Yo Traigo Boogaloo stand the test of time as one of Peru's most important contributions to tropical music across the decades, establishing Alfredito Linares as a master of the idiom and serving as a harbinger for great things to come for him in Colombia and Venezuela..." --Pablo E Yglesias DJ Bongohead of Peace & Rhythm

"Thelonious Monk (1917 – 1982) was an American jazz pianist and composer who needs little introduction. He had a unique improvisational style and made numerous contributions to the standard jazz repertoire…Monk is the second-most-recorded jazz composer (after Duke Ellington) and received prestigious awards for his career achievements (including a Grammy, a Pulitzer Prize and an induction into the Music Hall of Fame). Thelonious Monk is one of five jazz musicians to have been featured on the cover of Time magazine. Monk was highly regarded by his peers and by critics, but often his music was regarded as too ""difficult"" for more mainstream acceptance.

Thelonious Monk's compositions/improvisations feature dissonances with complicated melodic twists and are consistent with his unorthodox approach to the piano (which combined a highly percussive attack with abrupt, dramatic use of switched key releases, silences, and hesitations). Monk was known for a distinct look which included suits, hats, and sunglasses. He was also noted for an idiosyncratic habit during performances: while other musicians continued playing, Monk would stop, stand up, and dance for a few moments before returning to the piano.

Thelonious started playing the piano at the age of six and was largely self-taught…at 17, he was playing the church organ, and in his late teens he began to find work playing jazz. In the early to mid-1940s, he was already a house pianist in several Manhattan nightclubs. In 1944 Thelonious Monk made his first studio recordings…and since then he recorded classic albums for labels such as Blue Note (1947-1952), Prestige (1952-1954), Riverside (1955-1961) and Columbia (1962-1968).

By the mid-1970s Monk had disappeared from the scene and made only a small number of appearances during the final decade of his life. Thelonious Monk died of a stroke in 1982, leaving us with an unparalleled legacy.

In 1963 Monk was at the top of his game. With his steady quartet of veteran collaborators, he had landed himself a new contract with Columbia and recorded 2 milestone albums for them (Monk’s Dream and Criss-Cross). Soon after Thelonious Monk started touring in Europe to promote his freshly recorded material…and he brought his critically acclaimed line-up with him on tour: Charlie Rouse on saxophone, John Ore on double bass, and Frankie Dunlop on drums.

On the album we are presenting you today (Palais Des Beaux-Arts 1963) you’ll find unearthed Belgian concert-recordings from that era. The show consisted of 2 parts…both were recorded by the national Belgian broadcast company BRT/RTB who had the best recording-equipment on the market at the time. The set we unearthed here (the BRT recordings part) consists of tracks from said Columbia albums which have now become omnipresent Jazz standards.
Monk took the stage in his unique style with a grey wool Papakha as his hat choice. At that point unseen for the attending crowd…the showman shuffled across the stage, waving his arms as if he was about to lift off. He would take the crowd on a ride they would never forget. It was the first time Thelonious Monk played the prestigious Palais des Beaux-Arts venue in Brussels to an enthusiastic crowd of Belgian Jazz fans. Full house! The quartet delivers their set with true tight mastership (mixed with Monk’s trademark improvisational avant-garde flair) and leaving room for a jaw dropping minute long drum solo mid-set. All this...and as an encore, the famous Monk solo rendition of the classic song Just a Gigolo…make this a must-have for any self-respecting Jazz aficionado.

This release is the product of a labor of love from a dedicated professional team of archivists and musical technicians who have spent the last 15 years carefully restoring and cleaning more than 80 years of Belgian audiovisual culture, bringing these audio-gems from their vaults in Brussels into the digital world and preserving them for future generations.

Paris was the first city to really get behind my career as a solo artist. From the first time I played there in 2014 ‘til now, it's always had an extra spark of magic to it. It's always the stop I look forward to the most on my European tours as the audience comes with a very unique and kinetic energy, and because of this, so does the band. Wewantsounds announces the special reissue of one of Ennio Morricone's most striking soundtracks, composed for Henri Verneuils's 1975 film, Peur Sur La Ville (Fear Over The City). This special edition includes the original score released in 1975 plus a second album’s worth of bonuses which have never been released on vinyl, including two tracks making their official debut after 45 years.

Ennio Morricone's association with French director Henri Verneuil comes close to the one the Maestro had with Sergio Leone. This fruitful collaboration spawned many classics including The Sicilian Clan (1969), Le Casse (1971), Le Serpent (1973), and I Comme Icare (1979). Peur Sur La Ville from 1975 is probably the peak of their collaboration and is undoubtedly one of Morricone's best scores. The thriller featuring Jean Paul Belmondo was a huge blockbuster hit in France and Morricone's soundtrack became equally famous. It features all of Morricone's trademarks: a catchy theme with haunting piano chords, Alessandro Alessandroni's whistle, dissonant strings, melodramatic melodies, and catchy sexy groovy tracks. But as the French film failed to become an international hit, its score didn't get the exposure it deserved becoming cult only to the circle of Morricone fans. John Zorn did feature the "Peur Sur La Ville Theme" on his cult 1984 homage to the Maestro, The Big Gundown (making it to second position in the track list) but the soundtrack never had the trajectory of those made for Sergio Leone.

A wealth of bonus tracks was unearthed in the '90s, but this is the first time they make it to vinyl. The Wewantsounds team have completely re-sequenced the whole track list in a more chronological way and added two fascinating completely unissued tracks including a superb alternative version of the theme "Minaccia Telefonata". For this special edition, the label asked Californian musician and soundtrack expert AM to team up with his good Paris friend, Air's JB Dunckel to discuss the Peur Sur La Ville film and music, and their common admiration for the Maestro's music. This edition comes in a gatefold sleeve superbly designed by American illustrator Eric Adrian Lee, making good use of the film photos.

In November 1984, Paul Bellini rented a beatbox and started jamming in his basement with guitarist Rob Rowatt, bass player Gord Disley, and fellow York University alumni Scott Thompson. Their early recording sessions produced dozens of experimental songs with challenging lyrics and Mouth Congress was born.

Two years later, The Kids in the Hall’s Bruce McCulloch asked Mouth Congress to open for him at the Rivoli – a club where The Kids in the Hall performed regularly. Utilizing Brian Hiltz’s existing band I Want, they performed a memorable set and several months later decided to record a 7-song cassette entitled For People Only. The sessions occurred just five days before Thompson moved to New York City to begin writing the first season of The Kids in the Hall.

The band never got around to releasing the cassette in any official manner, but now, 32 years later, 3 tracks from For People Only are being made available for the first time by Captured Tracks. “Tactile”, Mouth Congress’s signature tune, is an ode to the sense of touch and a reminder that human contact is still our greatest pleasure. “Gonna Be A Man” is a love/hate song about masculinity.

To celebrate Record Store Day 2020 Pink Floyd release a live recording of the band’s first single, original singer and songwriter Syd Barrett’s best-known song, “Arnold Layne”.  The limited-edition, one-sided Record Store Day 7” represents the last live performance of the song by Pink Floyd with David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Richard Wright, all together in 2007. This special performance of “Arnold Layne” took place at the Syd Barrett Tribute Concert at The Barbican on 10 May 2007, with Pink Floyd members augmented by Jon Carin on keyboards and vocals, and Andy Bell from Oasis on bass guitar. 'The first album released from the most sought-after label, bar none, among jazz collectors! Black Jazz was started by keyboardist/producer Gene Russell for Dick Schory's Ovation Records. Active only from 1971 to 1975, and reputed to be the first jazz label started by an African-American since Sunshine Records in 1921, Black Jazz sought to expand minds as well as hearts, releasing spiritual, socially conscious music that explored such burgeoning genres of the era as funk, soul jazz, and free jazz. In December 1971, Sun Ra made an impromptu trip to Egypt with his Arkestra, his first time in the country. Hosted by drummer Salah Ragab and Goethe Institute's Hartmut Geerken, they performed hastily arranged concerts at Ballon Theatre in Cairo and at Geerken's house in Heliopolis. The performances emerged on three LPs released by Ra during the '70s: 'Horizon', 'Nidhamu' and 'Dark Myth Visitation Equation'. These three LPs now receive their first reissue on vinyl alongside two LPs of previously unreleased recordings. Rare photos and extensive new liner notes by Geerken and Paul Griffiths complete a definitive package celebrating Sun Ra's iconic trip to the Land of Ra.
