Live at Bubba’s is a previously unissued recording of the Jamaican jazz piano icon Monty Alexander captured live in Fort Lauderdale, Florida at Bubba’s Jazz Restaurant on August 6, 1982. Recorded by legendary engineer Mack Emerman, who founded Criteria Recording Studios (Aretha Franklin, James Brown, Eric Clapton), Live at Bubba’s features bassist Paul Berner (Lionel Hampton Orchestra), drummer Duffy Jackson (Milt Jackson, Benny Carter) and the acclaimed percussionist Robert Thomas, Jr. (Weather Report, Jaco Pastorius, Carlos Santana). The deluxe limited edition 2LP set includes an extensive booklet with photos by Jan Persson, Raymond Ross and Brian McMillen; essays by veteran jazz writer Willard Jenkins, pianist Benny Green, and producer George Klabin; plus interviews with NEA Jazz Master Kenny Barron and others. Some Old Bullshit is a compilation album by the Beastie Boys released in 1994. It compiles several of their early EPs, recorded in the early 1980s. These recordings present a sound radically different from that of the hip-hop sound generally associated with the band. Instead, these songs represent the band's part in the early New York hardcore scene. The album also features taped segments originally heard on Noise the Show, a popular hardcore radio show on WNYU in New York that played early recordings from the Beastie Boys. These segments feature the hyperbolic introductions of Noise the Show's host, Tim Sommer, an early supporter of the band.

Ridiculously rare vinyl, superb musicianship, and a Playboy Club are ingredients that make the Don Cunningham Quartet's Something For Everyone album so tasty. Luv N'Haight is proud to preserve and re-issue one of the most collectible, highly sought-after jazz-dance records.

"Bunnies plus food and drink equals good time."Brad Holiday's original liner notes (featured on the back of this album) tell it like it was. Don Cunningham, Marion Miller, John Mixon, and Manny Quintero formed the Don Cunningham Quartet and played ‘The Living Room’ at Hugh Hefner's St. Louis branch of the Playboy Club between 1965 and 1968. Their music was different from that of the jazz mainstays playing in ‘The Penthouse Room’. It was also different from any act in St. Louis at the time.

"Before forming the Quartet, I traveled to Fiji, Australia, the Caribbean and beyond as part of the Johnny Mathis group," explains Cunningham. "On these tours I discovered the "island sound," which was something I'd never been exposed to before. It was enchanting, mysterious and sexual."

The Quartet's unique blend of exotica, Latin and Brazilian rhythms, jazz and easy listening was a perfect fit for the Playboy Club. "I was influenced by having seen Arthur Lyman, Cal Tjader, Willie Bobo, Mongo Santamaria, and Harry Belafonte play live. Not to mention that I was buying all the Les Baxter I could get!" adds Cunningham. The band's sound caught the attention of Bob Webb, a wealthy local businessman. As a friend of piano player Marion Miller he'd learned of the Quartet’s popularity. "I don't want to work, you work, I'll put up the money," Miller recalls Webb 's words. Webb fronted the funds for Miller to create Exclusive records, releasing three albums and two 45rpm singles, including the Something For Everyone LP.

"The music was only sold locally. We never looked up a distributor and we really didn't have a regular record deal," says Miller. Don Cunningham only remembers selling and giving-away the album at Playboy appearances and to a few friends outside of club hours. Only 500 copies were ever printed, some mono, some stereo, it's not known how many of each format.

Of all the tracks on the album "Tabu" has been the biggest hit with the jazz-dance crowd. That track is the reason many collectors have the album on their wants lists. It remains a tune worthy of heavy DJ play. "Something For Everyone" has been at the top of my wants list for about 10 years now. All my other wants I have managed to track down over the years, but to own an original copy of the Don Cunningham album is as illusionary as driving a Rolls Royce," says producer/DJ Rainer Truby of Compost Records. "Not only is it a rare album it is also a good one. "Tabu" to me is the mother of all jazzdance records! A welcome release! I'm curious to check the rest of the LP, but "Tabu" is more than enough of a reason to stroll down to your local record dealer," he adds.

Miller and Cunningham are surprised but obviously very happy with the current interest in the album. Both are still active musicians and hope that this re-issue may stimulate even more work for them. At time of writing Cunningham was on the road with his wife, appearing as The Cunninghams on tour with the Count Basie band. "It's great that the album is being re-issued. There's truly a quality of music on it that has been missed for so long. In a way it's world music - Polynesian, samba, Brazil, jazz, West Indian. It has the energy of Latin and funk records. It's inspired by - but is not really - easy listening, you couldn't exactly sleep in our "Quiet Village!"" says Cunningham.

In the winter of 2016, Luther Dickinson began touring behind the release of his latest record, Blues & Ballads: A Folksingers Songbook Vols 1 & 2. Normaltown Hall, a now extinct listening room that sat above the New West Records office in Athens, GA, was known for hosting community events and intimate concerts intended for the listener and performer to connect. The venue capacity was permitted for 115 listeners, but on the night of March 9, 2016 there might have been over 200 people stuffed into the venue. Luther Dickinson (guitar, vocals), Sharde Thomas (drums, fife, vocals), Will Sexton (guitar), Amy LaVere (upright bass) and Brandon Chornes (drums) got on stage and brought down the house that night with a very intimate and eclectic set of American music.

On July 13, 2006 the Drive-By Truckers set up shop at Plan 9 Records in Richmond, VA. It was the 25th Anniversary of the store. The band performed to a packed house and played a blistering set of fan-favorites featuring the songs, "18 Wheels of Love", "Let There Be Rock", "Goddamn Lonely Love" and "Daddy's Cup." The performance was also set up to benefit the Bryan and Kathryn Harvey Family Memorial Endowment. The foundation provides, among other things, music scholarships in the Richmond area. Lead vocalist and songwriter, Patterson Hood ended up writing the song "Two Daughters and A Beautiful Wife" about Bryan Harvey and his family.

Brooklyn-based rapper Half-A-Mill climbed his way up from the underground in the late ‘90s with an initial breakthrough on 1997’s one and only album by The Firm, the supergroup featuring Nas, AZ, Nature and Foxy Brown, alongside producers Dr. Dre and the Trackmasters.

This 1977 studio recording finds Herbie Hancock embracing his jazz roots. The straightforward trio setting puts Hancock’s piano front and center. Backed by Ron Carter on bass and Tony Williams behind the drums, the recording features Hancock originals as well as the Trio’s take on Miles Davis’ “Milestones.”

Originally released in November 1970 as a single, Harrison's first as a solo artist, and topped charts worldwide; it was the biggest-selling single of 1971 in the UK. In America and Britain, the song was the first number-one single by an ex-Beatle.

The b-side is an anthemic ballad and one of Harrison's most celebrated compositions. "Isn't It a Pity" has been described as the emotional and musical centerpiece of All Things Must Pass and "a poignant reflection on The Beatles' coarse ending". In 1974, Bob James released his first solo album, One, which featured a who’s who of notable jazz greats like Idris Muhammad, Jon Faddis, Grover Washington Jr, James Gadd, and more. The album also produced a few successful songs, like Bob’s version of Roberta Flack’s “Feel Like Making Love”. Hidden at the at the very end of One was a largely overlooked filler track that would go on to impact a whole new generation a decade later. This song was “Nautilus”. “Nautilus” made a huge impact on hip-hop culture, and has been sampled over 250 times, including by living legends Tribe Called Quest, Dr. Dre and Run DMC. This is the first time this track is being released as a single on 7" vinyl. Side B holds and exclusive remix of the smooth jazz, chart-topping “Submarine” from his album Espresso. The single will come on gold vinyl, starting on RSD Black Friday.

According to the liner notes, Jazz Sabbath was a jazz trio formed in 1968. This self-titled debut album should have been released in 1970, but disaster struck when bandleader Milton Keanes suffered a massive heart attack and the label decided to cancel the release. Shortly after, a fire destroyed the label warehouse, erasing the album from existence. Upon his release from hospital many months later, Milton found out that a band from Birmingham, conveniently called 'Black Sabbath', had since released two albums containing metal versions of what he claims were his songs.

With the recently discovered master tapes remixed, Milton set out to prove that the heavy metal band worshipped by millions around the world are in fact nothing more than musical charlatans, thieving the music from a bedridden, hospitalized genius.

In truth; longtime Black Sabbath/Ozzy Osbourne keys and guitar player Adam Wakeman (as Milton Keanes), together with six other top musicians who only go by their ‘60s pseudonyms as well, delivered an album of Sabbath songs, reimagined as classic jazz tracks that surprised both the metal and the jazz critics (in a good way).

Mastertone Studios, NYC, 1965... Amidst mounting friction with producer Paul Rothchild, Fred Neil walks out of the unfinished sessions for what was to be his debut album, Bleecker & MacDougal. Fearing Fred wouldn't return to the studio, his friend and guitar player Peter Childs invited him over to his apartment at 38 MacDougal. According to Childs, "The best chance to get Freddie back wouldn't be to try to persuade him verbally, but to get him over to the apartment for a bit of music-making.” What transpired on that afternoon was a legendary singer-songwriter and his long-time accompanist making music for themselves in a living room setting, a one-of-a-kind private performance, captured on Ampex reel to reel, and stored for over fifty years!

The apartment recordings at 38 MacDougal were beautifully detailed in Peter Lee Neff's 2018 Fred Neil biography, That's The Bag I'm In. Fred and Peter play songs that would later wind up on Bleecker & MacDougal ("Travellin' Shoes", "Country Boy", "Gone Again", "Candy Man", "Little Bit Of Rain"), a definitive "Sweet Cocaine", and two songs that don't appear on any other Fred Neil album: the traditional folk song""Once I Had A Sweetheart", and the African-American spiritual "Blind Man Standing By The Road And Crying". (Despite the biography mentioning that the latter recording cuts off before it ends, Delmore Recording’s tape magically has the complete performance in all its glory.) Fred takes the song on a personal and deep journey, and Peter Childs adds the most perfect musical touches. It's also the first appearance on a Fred Neil record of one of the many Spiritual songs that were often a part of his live repertoire.

A collection of super-obscure, often private press, outsider psychedelic guitar and folk music from the ‘60s and ‘70s, all with the underlying theme of the Jesus People Movement. Despite being pulled from most markets in less than a week, the slasher film was a financial success and developed a cult following that has stretched over 35 years. Clement Dodd, the founder of the iconic Studio One label, was a fierce proponent of Marcus Garvey's message of self-reliance, having heard it in his youth. Over the years he recorded and produced many songs that expressed the yearnings and feelings of his fellow Jamaicans.
