The sequel to the legendary Season Of Da Siccness will be released late 2022 and to celebrate, Brotha Lynch Hung is releasing a very limited blood splattered vinyl edition of his classic second album Season Of Da Siccness for RSD Black Friday.

While his debut felt like the work a lone visionary, Season of Da Siccness heralds a movement. Lynch is backed by several of his Sacramento cronies, and his burgeoning posse was rewarded when the album reached #13 on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart. Whereas 24 Deep relied heavily on vintage samples, Season of Da Siccness focuses on a self-made vision of funk. “Sicc-Made,” “Rest in P**s” and “Liquor Sicc” embody a slow-moving concoction of hissing synths, groaning bass, and shards of piano. The sound design is a total representation of Lynch’s themes: nausea, psychosis, and claustrophobia. In turn, the imagery has become even more grotesque. Though Lynch’s songs grow out of everyday tales of ghetto living, his narratives are infested with disturbing, almost surrealistic imagery: baby spines, floating entrails, and caskets full of purple marijuana smoke. Lynch’s art is so image-oriented that he functions more like a painter than a songwriter. The highlight might be “Welcome 2 Your Own Death,” which creeps along on top of a growling subterranean bass tone worthy of John Carpenter.

Skip James was a Delta blues artist from Mississippi.  Known for his career during the Great Depression and subsequent decades, he was “rediscovered” and became much more widely recognized during the 1960’s when he was in very poor health nearing the end of his life. His playing style was primarily in a minor key, featuring complex fingerpicking. After years of being out of print, The Complete 1931 Sessions, taken from James' Paramount recordings, will be remastered and reissued by ORG Music for RSD Black Friday on color vinyl. The reissue features new artwork and liner notes by author Larry Jaffee. Shortly after Jay Dee’s younger brother Illa J’s solo debut, Yancey Boys, was issued on Delicious Vinyl, the label and the artist knew the next step in honoring Jay Dee’s legacy was to issue the complete instrumentals from Yancey Boys as a stand-alone release.

This mother lode of (at the time) previously untouched beats dates as far back as Jay Dee’s time working on the Pharcyde’s sophomore album “Labcabincalifornia” (1995). As Delicious Vinyl owner Michael Ross explains, “From ‘95 through ‘98 Jay Dee was my go-to guy for hot beats and remixes. He was always making beats, always. So there was a select amount of tracks that he composed for me during that time, tracks as good as anything he’d done, only they never got used.” Once these beats were used for Illa J’s Yancey Boys they were presented to the public on Yancey Boys Instrumentals.

For a certain generation of hip-hop fans, just the mention of Kid ‘n’ Play brings on a wave of nostalgia. The group released three full length albums between 1988 and 1991 with a focus on positive lyrics and pop-friendly production. The success of the group’s music led to countless House Party films (well, some have counted), a Saturday morning cartoon show and even a series of comic books for Marvel (so yes, technically speaking, Kid ‘n’ Play are part of the Marvel Universe).

It all started here on 1988’s 2 Hype which features “Do The Kid 'n Play Kick Step” (the musical accompaniment to their trademark dance), “Rollin With Kid ‘n Play” which hit #11 on the Billboard R&B Singles chart and of course Kid's now classic hi-top fade haircut, which measured up to over six inches high at its peak. Producer Hurby “Luv Bug” Azor, instrumental in the success of Salt-N-Pepa, was certainly a factor and the full length went on to Billboard Top 200 and RIAA certified gold status.

In 2010, Madlib launched an ambitious series of releases known as the Madlib Medicine Show with the prolific producer releasing new material on a monthly basis. In 1984, Willie Nelson was at the height of his popularity, having racked up sixteen #1 country hits over the previous decade and crossing over to the pop charts multiple times, while starring in a series of hit movies and becoming one of the most recognized figures in popular culture. He united fans across genres and generations and his live shows had become legendary. In February of that year, he performed in Tokyo to kick off a five-city tour that marked his first time playing in Japan, showing how global his appeal had become. The first shows were at the Budokan, the legendary martial arts hall. The February 23rd show was recorded and filmed for broadcast, eventually seeing release only in Japan, as a laser disc. Recorded at Avery Fisher Hall in New York City on June 27, 1982, as part of George Wein’s Kool Jazz Festival, it features Jaco leading a 22-piece big band with a congregation of the top jazz musicians on the New York scene at the time such as Peter Erskine, Bob Mintzer, Randy Brecker, Jon Faddis, Frank Wess, Lew Soloff, Howard Johnson, and legendary harmonica player Toots Thielemans. It showcases Jaco’s brilliant compositions for large ensembles with the electric energy of a live performance.

A portion of the concert was broadcast on the NPR program Jazz Alive! in 1982 and has been available on unofficial bootlegs, but this is the first official release authorized by the Jaco Pastorius estate and contains an additional 40 minutes which never aired. Culled from the original 24-track tape reels, this is the complete concert from start-to-finish with the sound meticulously restored and mastered by the original GRAMMY-winning recording engineer from the broadcast, Paul Blakemore. In 2008 Crooked I, Joell Ortiz, and Royce da 5’9” gathered to contribute to a cut Joe Budden was working on. The cut, “Slaughterhouse” resulted in the formation of and the name of this hip-hop supergroup. Slaughterhouse was also the name given to the collective’s debut released in August of 2009. Though the debut hit the #25 slot on the Billboard top 200 (and the #2 slot on the Top Rap Albums chart) Slaughterhouse has never been issued on vinyl. The story of Stark Reality… Discovers The Hoagy Carmichael Music Shop begins with Hoagy Carmichael’s son, Hoagy Bix Carmichael. Nearing 30 and working on Wall Street, Bix wanted to do something more worthwhile. He relocated to Boston and started working at WGBH, one of the country’s most innovative PBS stations. There he met Monty Stark, WGBH’s resident “music man.” When Bix set out to create an all new WGBH program, Hoagy Carmichael’s Music Shop, a children’s show revolving around his father’s 1958 children’s album Hoagy Carmichael’s Havin’ A Party, Stark was tapped to do the music. The resulting reimagination of Hoagy Carmichael’s recording was used for the show, and issued on jazz pianist Ahmad Jamal’s AJP label. The recording features Monty Stark on vibes, saxophonist Carl Atkins, Phil Morrison on bass, Vinnie Johnson on drums and John Abercrombie on guitar.

Despite being one of Memphis’s most long-running, prolific and popular gospel groups, The Jubilee Hummingbirds’ story remains largely unwritten. Early members O.V. Wright and James Carr — both of whom crossed over into secular music while singing with The Jubilee Hummingbirds — have guaranteed their mention in soul circles, but for a group with such a presence in their home city, and a generous multi-label discography that began on wax in the mid-‘60s and continues to this day, the Hummingbirds are a living, breathing example of the ever-present yet invisible place that gospel music, by its very design, can occupy.

Their 1983 LP, Gospel Express, was just one chapter in the rich history of The Jubilee Hummingbirds, but a significant one that deserves a deep focus. They were a little over halfway through their eighty-four-years-and-counting history when these recordings were made and they’re still singing today, now under the leadership of William "Redd" Watson. In 1983, shortly after Watson joined the group the ‘Birds landed on Bishop Bobby King’s Gospel Express imprint. The vinyl-hustling enigma behind such street-level setups as Hub-City and Home-Boys, King was a ghetto gospel impresario who went by so many different names that much of his activity is still a mystery. King’s calling card was the cut-and-paste album cover, which was almost ahead of its time in its crudely-collaged aesthetic. Gospel Express is being given a second lease on life in this RSD Black Friday edition.

Jazz and blues pianist/vocalist/composer Mose Allison has been described as "one of the finest songwriters of 20th century blues." This 1978 live recording features Allison playing his usual repertoire, in a trio with bassist Tom Rutley (bass) and drummer Jerry Granelli (drums). Since Allison only recorded one album during the years 1973 to 1981, this well-recorded live set is quite valuable.

Most of the material is fairly familiar, but the singer's spirited delivery and interplay with the audience make this recording rare. It ain't about technology, it's about these transcendent versions of Allison classics performed with sidemen who get it, for people who dig it -- the real deal. Highlights include "Wildman on the Loose," "Swinging Machine," "I Live the Life I Love," "I Ain't Got Nothin' But the Blues" and "Your Mind Is on Vacation." Legendary blues singer/songwriter/guitarist Big Bill Broonzy was a force in music from the 1920s until his passing in 1958. He was one of the first American blues artists to play Europe, and this fine recording shows how he influenced a generation of guitar players including Eric Clapton, John Lennon, Jerry Garcia and Bert Jansch.

The Giving Groove is proud to present the first vinyl reissue of The Dead Milkmen’s classic album Metaphysical Graffiti, now remastered with bonus material. Fans have cherished hits such as "If You Love Somebody, Set Them on Fire" and "Methodist Coloring Book," but since the Enigma label’s initial release in 1990, copies of the original pressing have become increasingly difficult to unearth. The remastered album will be offered as a limited-edition variant, pressed exclusively for Record Store Day Black Friday 2022. Housed in a gatefold jacket, bonus materials will include:
• A reproduction of the Methodist Coloring Book. Penned by Dean Clean’s wife, Melissa, the coloring book was printed as a promotional item for the 1990 release and has never been made commercially available.
• Four of the album’s songs, which the band loving refers to as “The Earls,” have been pulled from the 12” and given their own 7” vinyl (pressed on snot-colored brown and green variants) with new artwork.

Touring in support of their fifth studio album, Airborne, The Flying Burrito Brothers performed at the legendary New York City venue, The Bottom Line on August 18, 1976. This 12-track set features many of their classic songs alongside a few C&W standards. The group's lineup consisted of Skip Battin and Gene Parsons (both ex-Byrds band members), along with Gib Guilbeau, Joel Scott Hill and original Burrito, pedal steel legend, "Sneaky" Pete Kleinow. This live recording is previously unreleased.

"1976 was a great year for re-iteration of the Flying Burrito Brothers having the opportunity to travel throughout the USA celebrating the 200th Anniversary of the founding of the United States. Though Gram Parsons wasn't around anymore, Chris Hillman embarked on a solo career, and Chris Ethridge had just departed this band, we had some great guys that just happened to be real familiar with the 'Burrito' mentality. It all came together quite spectacularly! To begin, Gib Guilbeau was my life-long pal and Cajun guy par excellence. Gene Parsons, formerly of the Byrds, was he drummer from hell who lifted the excitement to the limit (and picked a great banjo and string bender guitar. What can I say about Joel Scott Hill? A rebel? A reverent fanatic? A soulful and emotional artist? ALL of the above! Then there is Skip Battin, who just joined the band whom everyone loved and called friend who provided very original bass and vocal support. Not since Ray Davies has a songwriter been able to craft such sharply observed vignettes in the space of a three-minute pop song like the late Adam Schlesinger. And on 2007’s Traffic and Weather, Fountains of Wayne’s fourth album, Schlesinger took his art to a new level, singing short stories as varied as crushing on a DMV clerk ("Yolanda Hayes"), celebrating the sexiness of a car not generally considered sporting ("92 Subaru"), being broke ("Strapped for Cash") and having luggage lost by an airline ("Michael and Heather at the Baggage Claim"). And while it lacks a radio-friendly hit like “Stacy’s Mom”—it should be mentioned that Chris Collingwood only contributed three songs to this record—there are still earworms aplenty, particularly on “I-95,” Collingwood’s “Seatbacks and Traytables,” and the title tune. Regarded as one of several standouts from the band’s landmark fall ‘91 tour, this stop in Hampton is certainly worthy of its lore. In addition to having all the hallmarks of a quintessential latter era Jerry Garcia Band performance, this night featured a very special guest: Virginia’s own Bruce Hornsby, joining on electric piano for the first and only time. The setlist is typically well-balanced, mixing road-tested staples, like the show opening “How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)” and “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down,” along with more recent additions to Garcia’s songbook like Van Morrison’s “Bright Side of the Road” and the show-closing “What A Wonderful World.” Playing with Hornsby always seemed to ignite a spark within Garcia and this proved to be no exception with their potent chemistry fueling lively versions of  “Ain’t No Bread in the Breadbox,” “You Never Can Tell (C’est La Vie)” and “Midnight Moonlight.”

This RSD Black Friday release brings together four studio demo sessions from The Heartbreakers (Johnny Thunders, Walter Lure, Billy Rath & Jerry Nolan) from 1976 and 1977, compiled onto one album for the first time.

Two sessions were recorded in 1976 in New York, including four tracks in their early incarnation with Richard Hell, and later six tracks after Billy Rath had joined on bass. In London in 1977, they recorded one session just prior to signing with Track Records, and another after L.A.M.F. had been released, with The Clash’s Terry Chimes on drums replacing the newly departed Jerry Nolan.

Pressed on transparent magenta vinyl, this release comes with a 12” poster of the Roberta Bayley cover photo, an outtake from the L.A.M.F. cover session, and an inner bag with Walter Lure interviewed by Johnny Thunders’ biographer Nina Antonia in 2005. The album shows the development of the band building towards their classic 1977 ‘L.A.M.F.’ album (recently reissued with a newly found original master), and further points to the direction they would have gone had they not split up.

Burning Desire is part of Dagger Records’ authorized Jimi Hendrix ‘bootleg’ releases.  Mixed by Eddie Kramer, the collection presents compelling examples of Jimi’s remarkable creative explorations through 1969 and early 1970.  In the shadow of Electric Ladyland, the original Jimi Hendrix Experience struggled to remain a cohesive unit and Jimi’s ceaseless creative pursuit would lead to experimental sessions with bassist Billy Cox and drummer Buddy Miles and ambitious attempts to integrate fresh musical elements.  On these studio recordings, Jimi can be heard developing exciting new material such as “Ezy Ryder,” “Cherokee Mist,” “Villanova Junction Blues,” “Izabella,” and “Burning Desire.”  Burning Desire was originally released on CD via mail order only, seeing it’s only LP release on black vinyl as part of a previous RSD Black Friday event. The double LP will now be available for the first time since, pressed on Translucent Orange and Red vinyl by QRP as part of the new RSD Encores series revisiting popular releases from past Record Store Day and RSD Black Friday releases.

After Austin-based Scratch Acid disbanded, caterwauling vocalist David Yow and bassist David Wm. Sims moved to Chicago, where they formed The Jesus Lizard and proceed to make a glorious racket throughout the ‘90s and beyond. Havoc and Bright Lights marked a rebirth for Alanis Morissette, the first album she recorded as a newlywed mother. A close listen reveals all the troubles rolling around Morissette's mind, but the nice thing about Such Pretty Forks in the Road is how its smooth, placid surface makes the record feel like an album-length guided serenity meditation.

The opening track on 1972's Super Freak is a brilliant, nearly side-long medley of three tracks from Curtis Mayfield's Superfly: the title track, "Pusherman," and, of course, "Freddie's Dead." Heavy, druggy, and psychedelic, with thick organ and wah-wah guitars, the medley sounds more like the psychedelic soul of War or even Funkadelic than the sparkling Latin jazz of Pucho's earlier albums. The rest of Super Freak is a little lighter in tone, but this is still the most groove-oriented and least overtly Latin jazz-oriented of this group's albums, trafficking instead in shuffling grooves like "Oak Hurst's Art" and vibes-led ballads like "Judy's Moods" and "One More Day." Latin jazz purists may balk, but this later became a classic of the '90s acid jazz movement, which some sources date to the U.K. hip-hop group Galliano pinching a sample from this album's version of "Freddie's Dead" for the 1989 single "Frederick Lies Still." -AllMusic

Although they only released two albums during their 1960s heyday, Michigan's Question Mark and the Mysterians were a significant influence upon garage rock and an inspiration for punk rock. Led by Chicano rocker Rudy Martinez who created an enigmatic mystique and image making him one of the first Mexican rockers.

Following the band's 1997 reunion, they went into the studio to re-record some of their old favorites: their million-selling #1 hit "96 Tears" appears here along with a Spanish-language rendition and their follow up hit "Can't Get Enough of You Baby," made famous by Smash Mouth. The 14-track set includes a 1966 demo of "Are You for Real?" along with a 1998 concert recording of "I Need Somebody."
