Intoxicated Demons: The EP is the debut extended play by American hip-hop trio The Beatnuts. It was released in 1993 by Relativity Records and was produced exclusively by The Beatnuts. The project consisted of two singles, "Reign of the Tec" and "No Equal," in addition to eleven cuts and five skits, spanning a total length of twenty-five minutes. Creative Improvisation Ensemble captures the meeting of two avant-garde giants, Marion Brown and Wadada Leo Smith, on May 12, 1970 in Paris, France. The session finds Brown and Smith on their primary instruments, alto saxophone and trumpet respectively, with both musicians performing various percussion instruments as well. "I have been a massive Melvins fan since I first saw them play live in Seattle around 1985. They were a huge influence on me as a musician and big part of our local Seattle burgeoning underground rock music scene in the 80s.

I reconnected with the Melvins in 2019 when they performed at the Chris Cornell tribute concert in Los Angeles. After the show, I emailed Buzz and asked if he, Dale, Steven and Toshi could help me record some solo material I had kicking around. I also collaborated with Seattle musician/producer Nate Yaccino and Meagan GrandallI on this release. Teaming up with former 2Tone labelmates Toby Lyons and Karl Shale (The Swinging Cats) for the band, The Colourfield launched on legendary UK TV music show The Tube, with their debut single “The Colourfield” in January 1984 and followed up later with their second single “Take”. Their debut album followed in early 1985, which contained the hit single “Thinking of You”, as well as subsequent single “Castles In The Air”. Later in the year they released a couple of non-album singles, “I Can’t Get Enough of You Baby” and “Things Could Be Beautiful” (produced by longtime friend, musician/producer Ian Broudie).

By the time of their follow-up album, 1987’s Deception, they had dropped to a duo. Launched with a cover of the Sly & The Stone classic “Running Away” and produced by Richard Gottehrer (Blondie, Go Go’s, Scritti Politti), the album fared less well and its final single was a cover of the Bobby Hart/Tommy Boyce track “She”, made famous by the Monkees.

3 Feet High and Rising is the debut studio album by hip-hop trio De La Soul, and was released on March 3, 1989. It marked the first of three full-length collaborations with producer Prince Paul, which would become the critical and commercial peak of both parties. It contains the singles, “Me Myself and I”, “The Magic Number,” “Buddy,” and “Eye Know”. The album title came from the Johnny Cash song “Five Feet High and Rising”. It is listed on both Rolling Stone’s 200 Essential Rock Records and The Source’s 100 Best Rap Albums. When Village Voice held its annual Pazz & Jop Critics Poll for 1989, 3 Feet High and Rising was ranked #1. It was also listed on Rolling Stone’s The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Released amid the 1989 boom in gangsta rap, which gravitated towards hardcore, confrontational, violent lyrics, De La Soul's uniquely positive style made them an oddity beginning with the first single, “Me, Myself and I.” Their positivity meant many observers labeled them a “hippie” group, based on their declaration of the “D.A.I.S.Y. Age” (Da. Inner. Soul. Yall). Sampling artists as diverse as Hall & Oates, Steely Dan and The Turtles, 3 Feet High and Rising is often viewed as the stylistic beginning of 1990s alternative hip hop (and especially jazz rap). 3 Feet High & Rising was chosen by the Library of Congress to be added to the National Recording Registry for its cultural significance and general excellence.

The Body-Hat Syndrome is the third album from the rap group Digital Underground.  The album's second single, an anti-racism cultural awareness politico called "Wussup Wit the Luv," features a solo from the Funkadelic guitarist Michael Hampton, as well as a verse and video appearance by Tupac Shakur. This was the last time Shakur appeared on any Digital Underground release.  The album also contains "The Humpty Dance Awards," the group's humorous shout-out to the many artists who sampled "The Humpty Dance" before 1993 (since then the list has grown to more than 50 artists).  The Body-Hat Syndrome, originally released on October 5, 1993, is celebrating its 30th anniversary. Three months after the release of their classic album Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots, the Flaming Lips played a small show at The Paradise Lounge in Boston for the local alternative radio station WBOS. The small crowd of competition winners and invited fans were treated to a 40 minute set that included “Do You Realize??” and “Fight Test”, plus covers of Pink Floyd’s “Lucifer Sam” and Beck’s “The Golden Age”. Released here on vinyl for the first time ever, this collection of rare recordings by Australian rock legends Fraternity was unearthed from the archives of original band manager Hamish Henry and curated by author and co-manager Victor Marshall whilst performing research for his book on the band, Fraternity: Pub Rock Pioneers’ (Brolga Publishing 2021).

Original cover artwork by renown Australian artist Vytas Serelis who also designed the cover artwork for Flaming Galah. The deluxe package includes a gatefold jacket packed with original press clippings and previously unpublished period band photos plus extensive liner notes by Victor Marshall.

The album features legendary AC/DC front man Bon Scott on lead vocals. His work with Fraternity put Scott on the radar of George Young, AC/DC coproducer and older brother of Angus and Malcolm, eventually leading to Scott replacing then-frontman Dave Evans in 1974.

So What is an acoustic jazz album by Jerry Garcia and mandolinist David Grisman, originally released on Grisman's Acoustic Disc label in August 1998. Garcia and Grisman were friends and collaborators for over three decades, with Grisman’s playing famously featured on the classic Grateful Dead album American Beauty. Joined by sidemen from Grisman's regular band (bassist Jim Kerwin, Joe Craven on percussion, and, on two numbers, flutist Matt Eakle), the co-leaders perform three versions of Miles Davis' "So What," two of apiece of Milt Jackson’s "Bag's Groove” and Davis' "Milestones," and one of Grisman's "16/16.” A rare opportunity to hear Garcia playing straight-ahead jazz music, a genre which he loved but rarely performed. The album is finally coming to vinyl for its 25th anniversary with a double LP, including two bonus tracks, housed in a gatefold jacket with original artwork from Garcia himself.

With his big, warm, round-toned sound, sophisticated phrasing, and hip quotes, Dexter Gordon was one of the major forces on the tenor saxophone from the mid-1940s until his death in 1990. Gordon was cited by both Sonny Rollins and John Coltrane as a major influence on their playing and is acknowledged as a jazz icon.

The popularity of mainstream jazz was on the decline in the States during the 1960s. The Vietnam war and racial turmoil were in high gear, and many of the music’s top-flight musicians, including Gordon, migrated to Europe in order both to escape and to make a living playing jazz. Gordon eventually settled in Copenhagen, Denmark. During this period, he usually played and recorded backed by a piano trio, but this 1969 recording is different. The usual quartet has been expanded with some of those premiere jazz ‘refugees’, each a major voice on his instrument, assembled for the session.

One of the great modern jazz trombonists, Slide Hampton, is also a composer/arranger of note. The album was a collaborative venture between Gordon and Hampton, and three of the compositions and all the arrangements on the album are his. The classy Jamaican trumpeter Dizzy Reese completes the front line. The rhythm section includes two jazz giants who were Gordon’s constant companions at Copenhagen’s famous Club Montmartre, fellow American expatriate pianist Kenny Drew and the great Danish bassist N-H Örsted-Peterson. The Gordon/Drew pairing is one of the classic horn-/piano matchups in jazz, and has often been compared with the Miles Davis/Red Garland and John Coltrane/McCoy Tyner pairings. Art Taylor, who “helped define the sound of modern drumming”, was brought in from Paris to complete the all-star rhythm section.

The fourth night of the famed Fillmore West run that produced the bulk of Live/Dead is an exceptional example--going back more than 54 years—as to why you never miss a Sunday show. Opening (!!) with what would later be known as the Live/Dead suite, 3/2/69 demonstrates the Dead had not only NOT run out of steam after three magnificent shows, in many ways they surpassed the previous nights' wildly powerful music. When your first set is the entire Live/Dead suite, what do you for a second set? Simple! You play for more than an hour and half, making sure everyone goes home way too late, but unimaginably happy.

Lost Demos by Linkin Park is a 14-track compilation of fully realized songs and works in progress that were recorded before and during the sessions for their landmark second album Meteora. Lost Demos was included on CD in the limited edition Meteora 20th Anniversary Edition Super Deluxe Box Set. It has never been released on vinyl.

Although the release title includes the word ‘demos’, the first three tracks are songs that were completed during the Meteora recording sessions but were not included on the final album. “Lost” was released to promote the Meteora 20th Anniversary Edition and became a hugely successful single globally. Fan favorites “Fighting Myself” and “More The Victim” round out the trifecta of unearthed studio treasures. Both make their vinyl debut along with “Lost” on this compilation.

In early 1973 Gram Parsons embarked on a tour to promote his recently released first solo album, GP. Gram put together a pretty great band, including the then-unknown Emmylou Harris as his singing partner. The shows were somewhat uneven at first, but by midtour the band started to find its groove.

One show stood out to pedal steel player Neil Flanz: the third night at the Bijou Cafe in Philadelphia. Neil felt that this was the best show of the tour and requested a copy of the soundboard recording. He saved it for almost forty years, and then it was acquired by Amoeba Music for a future Gram release. It then disappeared in the Amoeba vault for another ten years before it was rediscovered when Amoeba moved to a new location in LA.

It turns out Neil was right. This is Gram and Emmylou at their finest. And it’s the next to last club date ever for Gram and the Fallen Angels. A 50-year-old soundboard cassette offers some unique challenges, but thanks to the efforts of some of the world’s best archival sound restoration engineers, the beauty and energy of Gram, Emmy and the band shine through.
For all of those who never got to experience Gram live, this is the closest we’ll ever get to being there.

Keith’s guitar parts for “Heavy Voodoo” and its dubplate companion “Who Dares Dub” were recorded during New York City sessions for the 2008 Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry album, Scratch Came, Scratch Saw, Scratch Conquered. Shortly after Keith’s contributions were laid down, Scratch set to work at his home in Einsiedeln, Switzerland, jamming live on mic alongside Keith’s new guitar parts. Lee’s Swiss mountain lair was not strictly for recording, but the combination art studio, shrine and junk yard with its view of a valley and up into the snow-capped Alpine peaks, added its own influence to the recordings. Captured on portable recording gear with Lee using his special sacred jewel-encrusted Shure microphone, the Voodoo was indeed heavy that day.

A year later, Keith was back in the same New York studio to record parts for “Books Of Moses,” for what would become Scratch’s Grammy-nominated 2010 album, Revelation. This time Keith stripped out the original track and replaced everything, except the drums and organ with multiple instrumental takes of his own: bass guitar, Wurlitzer organ, acoustic piano, big drum boom and his inimitable RnB guitar riffs. Once again, vocals wizardry was added in Switzerland, in another Transcontinental collaboration.

Scratch and Keith finally got together in person in 2013 when Keith invited Scratch to New York to mix Keith’s cover of the Gregory Isaacs gem, ”Love Overdue.” It would be the final pairing of these two musical minds, but their small body of work was infused with magic, history, mystery, and prophecy all at once.

Scratch’d, the RSD Black Friday vinyl EP, includes the original vocal versions, “Books Of Moses” and “Heavy Voodoo,” plus new instrumental cuts, “Moses Books” (Dub Mix) and ‘Who Dares” (Dub Mix), which feature Keith’s guitar on the frontline.

Oscar Peterson’s trio with Ray Brown and Ed Thigpen is widely regarded as Peterson’s “classic trio,” considered by fans the most popular and in-demand of his long, storied career and featured on releases such as 1963’s Night Train and 1964’s We Get Requests.

Recorded during their creative peak in 1964 (five years into their collaboration), this previously unheard and unreleased live performance is destined to become a fan favorite from the Oscar Peterson vaults. In early 1991 Screaming Trees were in a shambles. Mark Pickerel had left the band a year earlier and Van was off playing bass for Dinosaur Jr. Mark Lanegan and Gary Lee Conner were set to continue with Donna Dresch on bass and a friend of hers on drums. Uncle Anesthesia, the band’s first major label album, on Epic, had just been released. While it seemed that working with the new band members might work, Gary Lee was despondent at the prospect of again playing in the band without his brother as Van had already quit and come back once in 1988. He came up with a plan to ask his brother to return to the Trees if he could get Van’s good friend Dan Peters, who was on a partial hiatus from Mudhoney, to play drums with the band. It worked, Van flew home and the band started rehearsals and soon was touring for the new Epic album.

During this time Screaming Trees went into Conrad Uno’s Egg Studio in Seattle to record a couple of demo tracks. After finishing, Mark Lanegan uncharacteristically suggested they record a live set while all the gear and microphones were set up. All alone in Uno’s Seattle basement, the Trees kicked some rock and roll ass. No audience, no cheering crowd but raw Trees power nonetheless. Here is that session which sat unheard for over 30 years. It’s a great testament to why Screaming Trees are remembered as one the Northwest’s most exciting and intriguing live bands. Pressed on white and yellow “fried egg” colored vinyl.

One of Meryl Streep’s first attempts at lighter fare was the fan-favorite 1992 dark comedy Death Becomes Her, which included one of her earlier vocal performances on film. Her original song “Me” is one of the expanded tracks on the LP (going from 2:18 to 3:28). In total, there are 12 minutes of unreleased music – mostly from super composer Alan Silvestri (The Avengers, Forrest Gump, Back to the Future) – though none of the content has been released on vinyl until now. Splinter was comprised of duo Bill Elliot and Bobby Purvis, and their blend of folk, pop, and rock were introduced to Dark Horse Records founder George Harrison in 1973. Harrison was quick to spot their potential and made them one of the first signings to his new label.

The band’s debut album The Place I Love was produced by Harrison and features extensive guitar work by the legendary musician, as well as contributions from Billy Preston, Jim Keltner, and Alvin Lee (Ten Years After) and Gary Wright (Spooky Tooth and “Dream Weaver.”)
One of the earliest recordings to be made at Harrison’s FPSHOT studio in his Friar Park home, this critically acclaimed album was the first to be released on Dark Horse. Billboard highlighted the band’s “strong harmony vocals,” whilst Melody Maker called the album an “outstanding debut.”

Including the hit record “Costafine Town,” along with the singles “Drink All Day (Got to Find Your Own Way Home)” and “China Light,” this remastered classic is now available on vinyl for the first time since its 1974 release. For RSD Black Friday its remastered and pressed on transparent clear vinyl with reproduced gatefold artwork and an OBI strip.
