Live in Anvers is the last album Alex Chilton released under his own name during his lifetime. He had recently taught himself how to transcribe music and for the album he wrote out charts for a number of songs, some he’d written,  like “In the Street” from his Big Star days and “Bangkok” from his run in the late 70s New York punk scene. An obsessive crate digger, especially of southern soul music, Alex unearthed and transcribed the music for Claim to Fame: an obscure Frederick Knight track as well as things made popular by Sam and Dave and Ernie K Doe. Urban Urbane is the fifth solo album from David J (Bauhaus, Love & Rockets), originally released on MCA Records in 1992. The album is a musical travelogue of sorts, with the initial recordings taking place in the tiny English village of Guilsborough, then London, New York and Los Angeles Aside from referencing those last three ports of call, the songs also name check New Orleans, Saint Petersburg and Memphis. It is a kind of collection of poetic snapshots from an itinerant drifter on the run.

The record is graced by contributions from a stellar cast of guest musicians including T Bone Burnett, Peter Murphy, Sonic Boom, Danny Thompson, Max Eider, The Uptown Horns and Charlie Giordano (E Street Band) amongst others. It was co-produced by the great Niko Bolas (Neil Young, Los Lobos etc).

In 2017, DIIV took the stage at Brooklyn’s Murmrr Theatre for a special, on-off, “unplugged” performance. Now, the band shares a compilation of those live recordings. The Grateful Dead performed more the 2,300 concerts, and of these many live shows, a three night run in May 1977, spanning three cities on the East Coast, is arguably the Dead's greatest trio of shows: May 7 in Boston, MA, May 8 in Ithaca, NY, and May 9 in Buffalo, NY. These three shows, along with their near-equal from May 5 in New Haven, made up the long-ago sold out box set "Get Shown The Light." Since the film was set largely abroad, the soundtrack to Ocean’s Twelve lacked some of the old-school Vegas vibe that made its predecessor such a hoot, but that meant more David Holmes, which is always a good thing (and Holmes won a BMI Award for his score just like he did for Ocean’s Eleven). The reggae classic issued for RSD 2023 on an Africa shaped picture disc.

Before his tragic death at the age of 21, Hugh Mundell was a rising star in Jamaica’s burgeoning reggae scene. In 1976, the Kingston native released the single “Africa Must Be Free By 1983”, produced by dub legend Augustus Pablo. The song would eventually become the title track on Mundell’s classic debut album, released through Pablo’s iconic label Rockers.

Now, Nature Sounds is partnering with Augustus Pablo’s family for a limited-edition Africa-shaped vinyl picture disc highlighting this indelible track. Written by Hugh Mundell and recorded when the famed singer was just 14 years old, “Africa Must Be Free By 1983” is an uplifting anthem steeped in the Pan-African ideals Mundell championed during his brief but memorable career. How To Train Your Dragon 2 was the biggest box office success in the 1.65-billion-dollar trilogy of animated films, which also had an eight-year run as a popular television program. The soundtrack was composed by John Powell, who has created the archetype for modern animation scoring, having created the music behind Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, Rio, The Lorax, most of Ice Age, and many more.

Presented on 2 LPs in a gatefold jacket and pressed on RED multicolor splatter, in keeping with the theme of the GREEN multicolor splatter vinyl on How To Train Your Dragon 1 (which was also exclusive to RSD). These are Sonny Stitt's last ever live recordings, on November 11, 1981, from Bubba's Jazz Restaurant, whose stage had been the place of so many historical jazz recordings. Stitt performs here alongside fellow tenor Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis and trumpeter Harry "Sweets" Edison, backed by the unrelenting drums and bass propulsion of Duffy Jackson and Donn Mast. This concert recording was first issued on vinyl in 1983, and has not been reissued since. This new press (on heavyweight colour vinyl) comes 40 years later as an homage to the late Sonny Stitt who died soon after the recordings, in 1982.

The audio has been remastered by Paul Hicks (The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, George Harrison) and art has been reproduced from the original release. Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros’ third studio album, featuring the single “Coma Girl,” was released posthumously following Joe’s death in 2002. 30th Anniversary of Van Halen’s “Live: Right Here, Right Now” On vinyl for the first time, exclusively for RSD 2023. The original live album plus three additional tracks. Never before on vinyl, this live show was from the “For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge” tour when songs like “Right Now” and “Runaround” were huge pop radio and MTV hits. It was also the first and only Van Halen live album until 2015’s “Live In Tokyo”. It contains fantastic live versions of Sammy-era hits like “Dreams”, “Finish What Ya Started” and “Why Can’t This Be Love” as well as unique versions of Sammy singing “Panama”, “Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love” and “Jump” and his own “One Way To Rock”. Bird Dog is an album by The Verlaines, originally released in 1987. It’s often considered to be their best, most introspective piece of work, and its songs "Slow Sad Love Song," "Bird Dog," and "C.D., Jimmy, Jazz and Me" all appeared on You're Just Too Obscure for Me, the only compilation to span the group’s entire career. "Slow Sad Love Song" was the first song Graeme Downes ever wrote, in 1980, inspired by the suicide of a friend.

In 1989, the Ukrainian band Vopli Vidopliassova, darlings of the Soviet punk scene, released a semi-official cassette tape called Tantsi (“Dances”). The album contained songs in both Ukrainian and Russian and was recorded in one night, at an adrenaline-fueled DIY session in Kyiv. It was intended by the band members to be nothing more than a demo tape. But soon fans started dubbing the cassette, and for connoisseurs of Soviet punk, the recording quickly gained cult status for its nervy and often hilarious songs poking fun at life in the last years of the USSR. In 2019, the original session tape was re-discovered, and in 2023, Tantsi finally gets its first official release. Featuring the original album fully re-mastered plus some rare bonus tracks, Tantsi is a time capsule from late Soviet Kyiv, where Ukrainian punks were rebelling against the repressive rule from the Kremlin, and imagining new horizons of possibility. Tantsi will be released on vinyl for the first time for Record Store Day 2023, limited to 2,000 copies worldwide. A book in the 33 1/3 series will be published about the album in May 2023.
