Reviews:

Planes don't crash that much anymore in this country. Especially charters full of sports teams. So it's hard for most of us to fathom the depth of the 1970 Marshall University tragedy, in which a plane carrying the Thundering Herd football squad back to campus crashed, killing all 75 people aboard. Director McG (Charlie's Angels) may have seemed like the exact wrong person to bring this delicate story to film, but he and star Matthew McConaughey'"another celeb not exactly known for profundity'"smartly focus on the positives of the aftermath. Young head coach Jack Lengyel (McConaughey) takes on the Herculean task of simultaneously rebuilding the program and healing the community. Naturally, the Herd doesn't go 11-0 in their first year back, but the strides they take under his tutelage helped expedite the healing and unity. This is the type of (fully-clothed) role McConaughey needs to take on more often.
