More Info:

Salsa is a musical genre and dance form of Caribbean origin, fusing elements of Afro-Cuban music, jazz and other Latin American styles. Born in the 1960s in New York, it is deeply rooted in the Cuban and Puerto Rican cultures. Salsa is characterised by syncopated rhythms, lively percussion (such as congas, bongos and timbales) and a dynamic brass section. The lyrics, often passionate, evoke themes of love, pain and everyday life. Iconic artists such as Celia Cruz, Héctor Lavoe and Willie Colón popularised the genre. Salsa has evolved to include various sub-genres and remains a strong cultural symbol and a popular form of expression throughout the world.
