Nick Drake's meditative folk meets Curbi da Esquina!Nicolas Gerardi, a big new talent from Rio de Janeiro following in the footsteps of Barra Deseo and Ana Frango Electrico, has released his debut album!Nicolas Gerardi is a 25-year-old singer-songwriter from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He has been familiar with music since he was a child and formed his first band, 'Ente,' at the age of 18. He played the bass. However, in 2022, Nicolas left the band and decided to focus on his solo career. This work, 'Em Outro Lugar do Ceu' (2024), is his memorable first solo album. The defining feature of his music is that it is heavily influenced by Minas music, especially the 'Club da Esquina' (meaning 'corner club', a Minas music family centered around Milton Nascimento) from the 1970s to the 1980s. Rather than Milton Nascimento, he is more influenced by artists with a stronger rock influence, such as Lo Borges, Beto Ghetsis, and Flavio Venturini. His hymn-like, ecstatic singing voice, Minas romanticism, sparkling guitar tones, and lyrical melodies... Every song is filled with admiration and love for the 'Club da Esquina'. At the same time, Nicholas is also inspired by George Harrison and Nick Drake, whom he deeply admires, as well as Mac DeMarco, a global indie hero, and even the majestic nature of Rio de Janeiro. The musicians who participated in this album are also impressive, including Guilherme Lirio (Gt. /Producer), Sergio Machado (Drums), Alberto Continencino (Ba. ), and Dora Morelenbaum (Vo. ), who are all supporters of the contemporary Brazilian music scene and have worked on the works of Ana Frango Electrico and Barra Deseo. This lineup, which is unusual for a debut album, is proof that many musicians are paying tribute to his unique talent. A masterpiece recommended for fans of Brazilian music from the 70s and 80s, recent Brazilian alternative rock such as Chin Bernardes and Leonardo Marques, singer-songwriters with evergreen appeal such as George Harrison and Nick Drake, and even indie rock fans!
