More Info:
Continuing Stage Door's 'Cast Album Masters Series' is the CD debut of the Original 1977 London Cast Recording of 'Edith Piaf, Je Vous Aime". Devised by Canadian performer Libby Morris, 'Edith Piaf, Je Vous Aime... ' was a musical revue based around the songs of Piaf, specially adapted into English by American lyricist and poet Fran Landesman (with additional lyrics by Peter Reeves and Ronnie Bridges). Morris, a musical theatre veteran whose credits include 'Gypsy', 'Mame' and 'As Dorothy Parker Parker Once Said' (an original London revue written for her by Sandy Wilson), was inspired to write and produce the revue after seeing Piaf perform on stage. Directed by Jonathan Heawood, the production opened at London's King's Head Theatre in February 1977 before transferring to the West End's Shaftesbury Theatre for a limited season, opening on June 21st 1977. Following the show's limited London run, Libby Morris took the production to South Africa, Canada and revisited the production for a London revival at the May Fair Theatre in 1990. Alongside Libby Morris, 'Edith Piaf, Je Vous Aime... ' starred Maureen Scott (London: 'Kings and Clowns', 'A Day in Hollywood - A Night in the Ukraine', 'Hello, Dolly!', 'Annie Get Your Gun') Peter Reeves (London:'Ann Veronica', 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat', 'Sugar Babies') and Clifton Todd (London: 'Maggie', 'Kismet'). An Original London Cast Album featuring the show's 37 songs was recorded in April 1977 and produced by Norman Newell. Released as a 2LP set, the 'Edith Piaf, Je Vous Aime... ' Original London Cast Album now makes it's debuts on CD, digitally remastered from the original Pye Records master tapes. The 'Edith Piaf, Je Vous Aime... ' Original London Cast Album is licensed courtesy of BMG Rights Management (UK) Ltd. And is a limited edition pressing of 500 units only.
