Al sinds 1978 bracht Doe Maar de ska, punk en reggae samen als de vertegenwoordigers van de Nederpop. Nadat Henny Vrienten zich bij de band had gevoegd, werd het tweede studio album van de band, Skunk, hun doorbraak bij het grote publiek. Met tijdloze klassiekers als "Smoorverliefd", "Sinds 1 Dag Of 2 (32 Jaar)", "De Bom" en "Belle Hélène", groeide Doe Maar uit tot één van de succesvolste Nederlandstalige groepen ooit.
