As one of bluegrass music's most recognized ambassadors, Ricky Skaggs has always felt compelled to educate today's listener about bluegrass music's rich history. Alongside his a award winning band Kentucky Thunder, Skaggs offers up HONORING THE FATHERS OF BLUEGRASS: TRIBUTE TO 1946 AND '47 to pay tribute to the music that shaped his life and career. Blistering bluegrass tunes such as "It's Mighty Dark to Travel" and "Bluegrass Breakdown" showcase the masterful instrumental standard set by their originators while delicate arrangements of "When You're Lonely", "Toy Heart" and "Remember the Cross" capture the magic and authenticity of their original recordings. Some of bluegrass music's most legendary performers lend a hand as well. Earl Scruggs, the only surviving member of the "original bluegrass band", adds his fiery banjo to "Goin Back to Old Kentucky", while another former bluegrass boy, Del McCoury, brings his unmistakable tenor to "The Old Crossroad".
