Jenny Hager (Hedy Lamarr) is a cruel and scheming woman who manipulates the men in her life to get what she wants. This drama is set in Bangor, Maine in 1842, and follows the rise and eventual demise of the evil Jenny who marries for wealth, but continues her flirtatious ways with other men. Jenny had always been cruel. When she grows into a beautiful woman, she schemes to marry the much older timber baron Isaiah Poster (Gene Lockhart). When Ephraim, Isaiah's son, returns from college, Jenny begins flirting with him behind her husband's back. Jenny secretly hopes that her husband will die after he falls ill. When Isaiah recovers, Jenny appeals to Ephraim to arrange his father's death. Isaiah does die while Jenny is already scheming to marry another man.
